High-Tech Entrepreneur Diane B. Greene Joins POST Board of Directors

Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) announced today that high-tech entrepreneur Diane B. Greene has joined its Board of Directors.
Greene was a founder, president and chief executive officer of VMware Inc. from 1998 through 2008. Before co-founding VMware in 1998, Greene held engineering and leadership positions at Silicon Graphics Inc., Tandem Computers Inc., and Sybase Inc. She also co-founded VXtreme, a streaming media company purchased by Microsoft in 1997, and served as its chief executive officer.
“Diane’s extensive background in business and her passion for our region’s open spaces makes her a perfect fit for our Board of Directors,” says POST President Audrey C. Rust. Greene also holds board positions at Intuit Inc. and two privately held technology companies, and serves on the advisory board of the Stanford School of Engineering. She is a member of The MIT Corporation.
Raised in Annapolis, Md., Greene is an avid sailor. She was the women’s national double-handed dinghy champion in 1976 and was a three-time women’s division winner of the San Francisco Classic, a long-distance windsurfing race. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Vermont and master’s degrees in naval architecture and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of California, Berkeley, respectively. A resident of Stanford since 1991, Greene is also an active hiker and biker of the San Francisco Peninsula’s open spaces.
Greene was drawn to POST, she says, by its “nimble, creative and open-minded approach to preserving open space, and the plants and animals that depend on it.” Says Greene, “It will be a privilege to support POST, whose work has long-term benefits for everyone.”
