Delicious! An Evening with Ruth Reichl

Hear author at Wallace Stegner Lectures in conversation with Michael Krasny

July 27, 2015

(Palo Alto, Calif.)—Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) will close its 22nd season of the Wallace Stegner Lecture Series with a talk by renowned food critic, author and restaurateur Ruth Reichl on August 31. The event will be at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts at 8:00 p.m.

Reichl was the restaurant critic for the Los Angeles Times (1984-1993) and The New York Times (1993-1999), and editor in chief of Gourmet Magazinee (1999-2009). She has been a key figure in the farm-to-table food movement, beginning in Berkeley in the 1970s when she co-owned The Swallow Restaurant. Her best-selling books include Comfort Me with ApplesTender At the Bone and Delicious! and are immensely personal illustrations of how our relationship with food is a metaphor for life. Reichl continues to advocate for the local food movement and chefs that embody its values. She will be joined in conversation by Michael Krasny, host of KQED’s Forum.

POST’s commitment to protecting local farms and farmland is reflected in this year’s theme: Conservation, Food and Farming. The series is dedicated to the late Wallace Stegner, a writer, Stanford University professor and important voice in the conservation movement in the West. Reichl is the fourth speaker in the 2015 series, which included Alan Savory, Dan Barber and Dr. Daphne Miller.

Jean Lane generously underwrites the Wallace Stegner Lectures in memory of her late husband Bill, who passed away in 2010. Media sponsorship is provided by Embarcadero Media, publishers of Palo Alto Weekly, Mountain View Voice, The Almanac and Palo Alto Online. Additional media sponsorship is provided by Edible Silicon Valley and Metro Silicon Valley.
