Funding Partners

The high cost of land on the San Francisco Peninsula means an organization like POST needs diverse and creative sources of funding. Private donations are the key to our success. They enable us to leverage matching gifts and public funds.

We also rely on the generosity of private foundations, many of which have contributed to POST's success over the years. For example, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation each granted $50 million to POST's Saving the Endangered Coast campaign. Through this campaign, POST raised $200 million to protect 20,000 acres of open space on the San Mateo Coast.

Public funding has made a significant contribution to POST's land-saving work. Since 2002, California voters have shown their support for protecting our natural resources by passing several billions of dollars in bond measures. The California Coastal Conservancy and Wildlife Conservation Board have worked with local organizations to protect land across California to help the state achieve its conservation goals. Grants of public funds have enabled POST to protect thousands of acres of open space on the San Mateo Coast - land that will one day be opened to the public.
