In 2011, we protected 8,532 acres at San Vicente Redwoods near the town of Davenport, CA. Since that time we have worked with our partners at the Sempervirens Fund, Save the Redwoods League and the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County to jointly manage this property. This management is particularly important to maintain this area as Bay Area mountain lion habitat.

Before opening sections of this property for public use, we are working to better understand how this would impact local wildlife. In particular, we are working to understand how mountain lions move across this landscape and what they need to thrive. Bay Area mountain lions need connectivity between open spaces to be able to hunt and live.

In April of 2016, NBC Bay Area’s Open Roads with Doug McConnell explored this project and shed some light in to the elusive lives of Bay Area mountain lions. Watch the video here:
