Did you know that one of August’s many monikers is What Will Be Your Legacy Month? Legacy can mean different things to different people. For some it may be the material things we leave to preserve memories or make life more comfortable for those we leave behind. For others, a legacy may comprise the choices we make and the deeds we perform, which shapes how we are remembered by others.

At POST, our legacy will be the result of our mission to protect and care for open space, farms and parkland in and around Silicon Valley. Over the past 38 years we have strategically preserved 75,000 acres of irreplaceable lands now and for future generations.

For that success, we are grateful to all of our donors, whose support has enabled POST to protect an accessible, unique natural landscape that other metropolitan areas can only dream about. In less time than it takes some people to make their daily commute, we can explore open spaces, redwood forests, or quiet coastal areas that will never be developed.

We created our Open Space Legacy Society to recognize individuals who have arranged a POST legacy gift in their will, trust, IRA or other plans. Their gifts ensure that POST has the resources at hand to save critical lands as opportunities arise. We are grateful for their special commitment to our future.

When you take time to think about your legacy, what do you envision? What passion do you want to pass along so others can experience the same joy you’ve felt? What wonders do you want to leave for others to discover? What memory do you want others to hold onto when they think of you?

Let that be your guide as you make your way through life and choose the legacy that defines you. It’s never too early, and today’s not too late. Think of it as your gift to generations you won’t meet, but who will remember your generosity as an important positive influence on the life they are able to lead and enjoy.
