Join Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) at Calero County Park, one of the region’s most beautiful oak woodlands just south of San Jose on the westside of Santa Clara Valley. You will be led by POST ambassadors who will share about the natural history of the area and about POST’s contributions to Calero County Park, and the several other open spaces that make up an important area of protected habitat.

The hike is moderate to strenuous at about 5 miles round trip with about 550 feet of gradual elevation gain. Guests will experience outstanding views of rolling California hills and the Calero reservoir. We will hike along the Los Cerritos, Vallecitos and Figueroa trails, through beautiful oak woodlands with views of Calero Reservoir, the Sierra Azul, Santa Cruz mountains, and Coyote Valley.

To sign up, please complete the Eventbrite form below. The orange “Register” button will be clickable once all fields are properly filled. Please register using a valid e-mail so you receive your e-ticket & the pre-hike instructions.

Please note that dogs are not allowed on this preserve due to active cattle grazing and that all minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the entirety of the hike.

This event is part of POST’s community event series. These events are open to the general public as well as POST donors, and we hope you will join us! We also curate a separate series of private events for our donor community. Learn more about how you can support POST here: openspacetrust.org/support

About Calero County Park

Calero County Park is one of Santa Clara County’s most diverse regional park and recreation areas. Once part of the Pueblo lands of San Jose, and Rancho San Vincente land grant, this approximate 4,471 acre park is nestled in the eastern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Two distinct areas define this park: the reservoir, which offers a host of water-oriented recreational activities, and the adjoining “back country” which reveals to the visitor California Oak woodland, chaparral, riparian plant communities and associated wildlife habitats. During the months of March, April and May the “back country” offers a spectacular display of wildflowers. In addition, the park offers breathtaking views of southern Santa Clara County and the surrounding Santa Cruz Mountain Range.
