Join Peninsula Open Space Trust, Universal Grammar and Forager Tasting Room in welcoming artist, writer and California naturalist Obi Kaufmann to San Jose!
We’ll be hosting a gathering at Forager Tasting Room with a talk by Obi Kaufmann about his new, groundbreaking book, The California Field Atlas, which illuminates the vast array of life in California through beautiful artwork. Obi’s masterpiece is a compendium of over 300 hand-painted maps that details the local topography.
There will be live music, DJ’s and live art all by local artists. Meet other local art- and open-space lovers and have an opportunity to purchase a signed copy of The California Field Atlas.
Poet and artist Obi Kaufmann is an advocate for wilderness defense and conservation. His written and visual work always makes reference to a deeper mystery where an inner world of adventure and wonder meets the outer world of evolution and natural history. He is available for signing events and speaking engagements where he tours with the collaboratively designed line of rugged men’s apparel by INDIGOFERA, the California Hiking Series. Follow his journey through Instagram @coyotethunder and at www.coyoteandthunder.com
Contact Obi directly firstname.lastname@example.org or through his event representative Julie Atherton with JAM COLLECTIVE.
There will be a live art demonstration by San Jose Artist Frances Marin during the event. Frances is a visual artist and illustrator living in San Jose, CA. The mysterious nature of life, both real and imagined, lead her to explore everyday familiarities, dreams, memory, the subconscious and humor in her work. These ideas are explored primarily through drawing and painting with water media. Recurring themes include escape, nature, our preoccupation with objects and the absurdity of life. Her art has been exhibited in the US and Spain and lives in homes in the US and around the world including New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Mexico and throughout Europe. She has worked on illustration projects for Casper, Chromatic Coffee, Content Magazine and Washington Square Magazine. http://www.

POW! WOW! San Jose came together for its first iteration in 2017 as a gathering of contemporary artists that engages with the broader community in the process and creation of art and music. It culminates as a week-long festival for our community to engage with local and global artists to celebrate and spotlight our beloved city. The week also features curated offerings that include gallery shows, lectures and artist talks, community art and music programs, mural projects, concerts, and live art installations.
Established in 2008, Empire Seven Studios (E7S), an urban contemporary art gallery located in San Jose, California, has been advocating for local/global artists by creating opportunities and providing a place to elevate and highlight emerging talents on a grand scale. Led by Jennifer Ahn, Curator/Gallery Manager and Juan Carlos Araujo, Director/Art Consultant, both coming from two different art backgrounds have given E7S a passionate inclusive approach to the art that they showcase and curate within the current and contemporary times. E7S has evolved as a meeting place for artists of different disciplines to engage and connect with the public.
