On this 5-mile excursion, you’ll hike from the Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve to the top of the POST-protected Mindego Hill and back. We advise that you bring snacks to enjoy at the top of the hill for 10-15 minutes before heading back to the parking lot.
If you are joining us with friends and family, we highly recommend you carpool. The parking at the trailhead is quite limited, so we will be meeting at the Skyline Equestrian Lot and POST volunteers and staff will help organize a carpool to the main trailhead. If you are willing to drive folks from the Skyline Lot to the Trailhead (1 mile or so), please let a Volunteer know when you arrive.
This hike is strenuous, so be prepared for a workout! There is a steep descent from the parking lot, and what goes down…must go back up! Athletic wear and sturdy shoes are recommended! If you’d like to bring your own hiking poles, you’re more than welcome. Dogs are not allowed at this particular preserve. Please ensure that all minors are with a parent or guardian for the duration of the hike. All attendees should register through Eventbrite in order to receive day-of information/meet-up locations.
Protected by POST and recently opened to the public by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, Mindego Hill is an excellent example of how POST works with various partners to protect some of the most threatened lands in our area. You’ll hear more about how we protected this beautiful property and have the opportunity to chat with several POST representatives.
This event is part of POST’s community event series. These events are open to the general public as well as POST donors, and we hope you will join us! We also curate a separate series of private events for our donor community. Learn more about how you can support POST here: openspacetrust.org/support
Mindego Hill offers panoramic vistas of protected redwood ridges and undulating hillsides, including Mindego Hill, now part of the Russian Ridge preserve, protected by POST in 2007.
With generous support from our donors and in partnership with Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, POST funded the creation of this new addition to Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve so future generations can continue to enjoy breathtaking coastal views from this dramatic lookout point.
The Mindego Hill portion of Russian Ridge was opened to the public on March 30, 2016.
Peninsula Open Space Trust protects open space on the Peninsula and in the South Bay for the benefit of all. Since 1977, POST has protected over 77,000 acres in San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz Counties.
