Our Vision

POST is creating a network of protected lands where people and nature connect and thrive. These lands are preserved forever so present and future generations benefit from the careful balance of rural and urban landscapes that makes our region extraordinary.

Our Impact

Since our founding in 1977, we have preserved over 83,000 acres of open space in San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. These protected lands include permanent open space, farms and parks. Discover more about our strategic plan, our values, and our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Our Process

Together with a range of dedicated partner organizations, POST has protected more than 83,000 acres using proven methods to successfully conserve land. Once land has been protected, POST’s stewardship team steps in to care for each property before it is transferred to a public agency for permanent management. Our extensive experience coordinating with partners and leveraging funds is key to effectively acquiring and restoring land.

How we do this work matters to us — both within our organization and in engaging partner groups, contractors and the communities we serve. It’s why we are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and are working to build strong partnerships with local Indigenous groups.

Our Program Areas

Our five program areas allow us to take a holistic approach to sustaining our local ecosystem and span the variety of open space usages in our community: Public Access, Redwoods, Wildlife Linkages, Farmlands and Coyote Valley.
