Join Peninsula Open Space Trust and Grassroots Ecology to celebrate Earth Day and volunteer at Pearson-Arastradero Preserve

Connect with the land and celebrate Earth Day with POST and Grassroots Ecology! We will be supporting biodiversity in this beautiful open space by walking together as a group to target weeds in priority restoration areas.

This event will involve kneeling, digging, carrying, bending, and walking on uneven terrain. Volunteers should expect to walk at a slow pace for 1.5 – 2 miles.

Pearson-Arastradero Preserve has expansive oak woodlands and grasslands with beautiful trees and wildflowers and is home to an abundance of wildlife, including deer, bobcats, coyotes, and many species of birds and insects. The work you do will support the health of the preserve’s ecosystems!

Visit Grassroots Ecology’s Pearson-Arastradero Preserve webpage to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations. We will release more details closer to the date of the event. Keep an eye out for an email containing information about what to bring, wear, etc!

Grassroots Ecology is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for public lands and waters across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Each year they engage thousands of people in hands-on education and service that improves our local environment.

Grassroots Ecology’s aim is to restore natural functions to the ecosystem by keeping invasive plants in check, growing locally native plants at their nursery, supporting stream restoration and fish passage projects, and planting a diversity of species in order to feed wildlife. Please also note that this activity is best for children ages 14+. All minors must be accompanied by adults for the entirety of the event. Thank you!
